[Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) BUTCHER DEFEATS TANNER, SYDNEY, Alay 23. At the Stadium on Saturday night, Eddie Butcher (10.2-)) outpointed Issy’ Tanner (10.9)) in a twenty round contest. The fight was very even throughout, with Butcher coming oil top. As a boxer, Tanner seemed to nurse his right hand to end matters early, and nearly succeeded in doing so in the eighth round, and again in the thirteenth, when, with la heavy right swing to the jaw, lie dropped Butcher for nine. It was only Butcher’s clever boxing that got him out of that trouble. From then oil, both men fought hard, particularly Tanner, vho was slightly behind on points, but Butcher was content to box his opponent. GILLESPIE BEATS KELLY. MELBOURNE, May 23. At the Stadium, Norman Gillespie defeated Patsy Kelly on points in 20 rounds. CARPENTIER’S “COAIE-BACK.’' NEAA 7 YORK, Alay 21. Carpentier, essaying a “come-back,” fought a ten round draw with Eddie Huffman, of California.
