[by TELEGRAPH —rER TRESS association.] INDIAN ARMY PLAYERS. NAPIER, Alay 23. Before an attendance of 4000, st AlcLean Park yesterday afternoon, tbe Indian Army Hockey team played the Hawke’s Bay representatives, winning by 13 to 2. Rain cleared off in the morning, find the ground was good, being not even greasy, and the visitors were loud in their praise, saying it was the best ground they had yet played on in New Zealand. It was a splendid exhibition of hockey, and at times the spectators were roused to great enthusiasm, but the visitors were vastly superior, and condition and combination told in the second half. It. was the strongest team yet fielded by the visitors, aud included Frauds, a fine half. Dhian Cliaud scored eight goals for the visitors, Captain Cox three, Captain Belldiainbcr two, while T. Dooley, of Wairoa-, netted Hawke’s Bay’s only scoies. The match was rather remarkable for the fact that the Home team scored first, although the match resulted in the visitors scoring more goals than against any team yet played. Dili an Clmnd and Captain Cox played an outstanding game, but the exhibition given by the Hawke’s Bay goalkeeper was splendid, and lie attunes evoked bursts of applause from tlio crowd. At times his work was almost uncanny, and the risks lie took justified the end.
