There is no doubt that after the war the public mind was steeped in anything but lofty ideas in regard to literature and entertainments. Sabatini’s works were lying on the shelves waiting to he read. For some unknown reason the pendulum of public taste swung back to a demand for romances of older days. Sabntini’s works were read with avidity ; the pictimsatinns of his works were no less successful.
