TWENTEITH SHOW. HELD OX HOKITIKA RACKCOFR.SH. The Westland A. and P. Association held its twentieth annual show yesterday on the Hokitika racecourse, when only a moderate success Mas achieved. The weather conditions in the early morning were not too promising, but the clay improved as the morning advanced and it ivus fine and sunny till three o’clock, when a light shower fell for a couple ol minutes. About- 4.15 p.m. there was a sudden downpour that lasted n quarter of an hour and practically drove the people home only a couple of the sporting events being completed after the rain had cleared away to some extent. The entries u*ere not numerous, but what there were were of a high class. In the cattle especially were some splendid specimens and the Association is specially indebted to Messrs King Bros., of Springfield, who showed a very fine lot of Friesians and Alessrs Black Bros., of Barfield (shorthorns and horses). These two visiting showmen made a brave display of quality stock that was the subject of much favourable comment. Air A. F. Bimmick (Jerseys) and Air A. Jamieson (Ayreshircs) also added interest with their entries. There was only a few sheep, while pigs were not entered at all. Bogs were only in small numbers while the farm and dairy produce Mas very disappointing. Home cookery was also almost an absentee. a matter for extreme regret as this is always a. pleasant feature at similar gatherings. The school competitions drew good numbers of entries but a number of them failed to materialise. The sporting competitions were ill full swing when the rain came. The riding and light horse tournouts attracted interest, but the competitors were not as Humorous as they might have been. The various judges and officials were present in full force and carried out their duties promptly, but the absence of stronger competition in the various classes dulled the interest and enjoyment of patrons. The attendance was moderate. The Alunicipal baud was present and played a number of selections in good style. It is a matter for regret that the support accorded ivus not more substantial, as it points to the financial side not being too strong when the accounts are made up. The prize list, was as follows:
