A dispute in the provisioning department of the Union Company's cargo steamer Kaliika is responsible for the ship being held up at Dunedin.
Th ■ trouble arose late on Wednesday afternoon, when the Kaliika was about to soil for Napier and Gisborne via wav ports. It appears that the chief .steward is under instructions to pro cod to Wellington for orders, and it is stated that the cooks and steward:! objected to his transfer, and refused to sail until he was reinstated. On Wednesday night the chief and assistant cook, and one or two stewards failed to return to the ship am! she was unable to leave her berth in consequence. The position was advanced another stage this morning, when the stoke-hohl crew came ashore, and they had not returned up to this iiioni,nJ- It is stated that the men are a; ting in sympathy with the chief stewar.l. Consequently the. Kaliika is ■still he'll up indefinitely.
