Divorce and matrimony were closely associated in an application for a decree absolute that came before the Wellington Supreme Court. “ I trust that there will be no delay in this case.” said counsel for the petitioner-. “ because 1 understand that wedding invitations have been issued by one of the parties for .Monday next.’’ Mr Justice Reed’s professional gravity also relaxed. “ Well, well!” lie said, and smiled in turn. “It would never do to hold up the bridal party. All right —decree absolute!” An old oak tree, recently cut down by the Public Works Department on land acquired in Auckland, for railway purposes, lias started off on a new lease of life. The grandson of the original planter of the oak secured possession of the stump, with the roots attached, and it was conveyed by motor-lorry to the west side of the railway to a she immediately opposite the old flourmill, where it was replanted. The task was no easy one, as the stump had a girth of 13ft, and the whole, with a certain amount of soil attached, weighed over five tons.
