I inspected the line of mad required to give access for vehicle traffic between South Spit and Manauui. The lower portion of Ruatapu Sea Beach Road from the boundary of section 1052. shown on the attached locality plan, to South Spit, is almost impas-
sable for vehicles owing to the accumulation of wind blown sand, and a grant of £25 is necessary to level the sand bills to keep the road open for traffic. This work would only be temporary as a heavy wind from the west would soon obliterate all traces of the roadway. The most practical route is a com
tinuatioii of the road along the western bank of Mnhinapua. Creek as far as Alahiuupun Railway Bridge, and thence by way of the Railway Reserve to the lower boundary of section 1052, a total distance, including the length necessary along Mnhinnpiui Creek Reserve of 50 chains. A surface cleared i and formed line suitable for light wheel traffic can be constructed for £SO, but not including the removal of the railway fence to the eastern side of the road line. The road iine I requires clearing and old timber remov- i ing to the eastern side of road line ! before the fence is removed from its present position for, approximately, a distance of 40 chains. Tlio cost ot ro- i moral and re-erection of the fence will | be £2O.
