THE WELFARE LEAGUE

THE PRESIDENT’S RESIGNATION

The following is the resignation of AL- C. P. Skerrett, President of the \\ el fare League, to the secretary of that l>ody:— As you know, at a committee meeting of the executive of the League, hold on 26th .ultimo, I resigned my office as President, in consequence of my appointment to the office of Chief Justice of the Dominion. I sever my connection with the League with sonic regret. I have always regarded it is an organisation of great value to the country. It voluntarily investigates many important questions affecting the public weal: draws such inferences as commend themselves to it; and prepares the minds of legislators and of the public to consider and deal with these. sul>jects. Its educative value has been considerable ; and it sinfluenre has been most advantageous in causing public attention to be directed to the solution of many of the political and social problems of the day. It was with great pleasure that I watched the League gradually gaining the confidence of the people. I attribute this success very largely to the fact that it was bound to no political party and dealt with all quesions wihout reference to the interests of any party or any section of the community.

In saying farewell to the executive, with whom I have always worked with, the utmost cordiality, I should like lo say that in their management of the League affairs they have always proceeded on the basis that its influence should not be used for any sectional or private interest. In parting with the permanent officers, [ would be very remiss if I did not express my appreciation of the great, and in most eases, specialised services, which they have rendered to the League, and of their untiring steal and industry in its cause.
