Included m the reforms being given effect to in the treatment of the patients in the mental hospitals of the Dominion are the construction of additional tlinages and new wards on the grounds of the institutions in several | districts. At the Tokauui Mental 1 Hospital. Waikato, last week a now ward wa.s officially opened by the M Ivor of To Awainutu. in the,absence of tlie* Minister of Health (the Hon. .1. A. Young'. The new ward is on the women’s side of the building, and has been named after the late Inspec-tor-General of Mental Hospitals, Dr Frank Hay in recognition of liis valuable service, extending over many years, as head of the Department. Tn his address at the official opening of iho no wward. the medical superintendent eulogised the service of the late Dr Frank Hay. and added that lie had taken a prominent part in the initiation of the additions to the hospital, and was intensely interested in the improvements and additions. The late Inspector-General was always anxious that every facility should be given for the host possible treatment of the mentally afflicted.
