In Ihe House of Representatives Air Latham introduced the Crimes Act Amendment Bill, which he said was brought in to fulfill the clear an definite mandate of the people. He added. that, as the Labour Party was a party of law and order he relied on the unanimous support of the House for the maintenance of law and order. The Bill provides for deportation neiinlties in certain eases, along similar lines to those provided in the Immigration Act, and declares any body of persons advocating, or encouraging the overthrow id the constitution by revolution or sabotage, or the overthrow hy force of the established Government. of the Commonwealth or States, or any organised Government, or the 'destruction or injury of any Commonwealth property, nr the property used iu commerce with other countries or States, shall he deemed unlawful, and the association and office bearers of such association shall he liable to twelve month.'-’ imurisoiimoilf.
A similar penalty is provided for iho teaching revolution in any institution or school conducted under the authority ol' the unlaw lul association. The Bill also provides a penalty ol Iv.'n years imprisonment) for any person. who, by speech or writing. encourages the perpetration of any ol these offences, and. ii the ofiender he not hern in' Australia, deportation by order ct the Attorney-General. Provision is also made for the Oov-“mor-Goi'cral. hy proclamation, to declare a slate of serious industrial disturbance exists, and any person, who. during the operation of such proclamation. participates in. or encourages a continuance of a lockout or strike in relation to transport in trade or commerce. or to employment in any public serv.be. is guilty of an nfier.ee and. if not horn iu Australia, is liable in deportation hy order of the Attor-ney-General with whom Pes the sole ani lunity to deport.
