Ti:,e body of Claude Lewis, a city business man whose deserted car was found at Brighton on Tuesday week, was washed up on the beach this morning. A B r KILLED. A KLANI), Jan. 14. William Dando, aged oj. was killed at Ilowiek lust evening. His motlier was driving a gig containing two other women and three children when the horse bolted. Mrs Dando was thrown out and before the others could seize the reins the shafts broke and nil the occupants were thrown on to the road. The lad was so badly injured that he died betuve a doctor arrived. A BIG ISLAZE. AUCKLAND, January 1-1. Early this morning a fire destroyed Wilson and C’anham’s wool scouring works at Onehunga. ’1 lie damage is estimated at £30.000. The blaze had a good hold when a passing milkman noticed the outbreak and he and a. policeman notified the Brigade. When they arrived the whole place, consisting of a storey and a half of iron and wooden building was a mass ol flames. Several explosions were heard hall a mile away, when the boiler and vats blew up. The whole building and slin k was completely destroyed, the inflammable nature of the contents making the Brigade’s efforts fruitless, and the total loss is £30,1)00. Insurances are: £'2,3.100 (buildings £3.000 and contents £23. BIO) in various offices.
