HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
FRIDAY, NOV FAIRER 27. The Council met at 7. 13 p.m. Present:— Messj's 11. M. Coulsoti i Deputy Mayor), .1. King. A. R. Klcock, I). .1. Evans. \Y. Jeffries. R. Orr. G. Heinz, 11. T. Parry and G. 11. Hl,'ink. .An apology was liiiulo tor the atisence of the Mayor. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. VOTE OF CONDOLENCE.
The Deputy Mayor referred to the death of the Queen-Mother, Alexandra, and moved that the Council express its Jeep sympathy in the loss sustained by the nation by llie death of the QueenMother; and that the resolution lie forwarded on to the Governor-General. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.
Froin Railway Department stating 'he payment of Is 2d per 1.099 gallons for water supply had been approved, llie charges to lie reviewed at the end •>f twelve months, the necessary meters in he in-ialled at cm te the Railways. - Received and unproved. From N.Z. Refrigerating Company. Christchurch, forwarding L‘2 7s fid charges on sheep sent to Hokitika.—Received. From AYestland Committee of the Canterbury Progress League thanking (‘onncll for grant of £39 towards procuring a supply of leaflets ol " Beautiful Westland” for distribution at the Dunedin Exhibition.—Received. Emm Private .Secretary to the Gov-ernor-General, slating tlie GovernorGeneral and Lady Ferguson proposed to visit Hokitika on December 19th, arriving at 9.30 a.m. and remaining till I p.m.—Received. Air Evans moved that the Mayor be asked to arrange for the presentation of an address and a suitable public welcome. Seconded by the Chairman and carried. REPORTS. The Treasurer reported :— Receipts £10(5 3s fid, payments Clfifi 2s, bank credit balance £277 (is 2d : Loan Account credit £417 9s 9d.—Received. The Finance Committee reported recommending that the sexton’s salary remain as at present, to ho revised in three months time; and that lie bo placed under the orders ol the Overseer.—Received.
The Public Works Committee asked for authority to put the usual ’Xmas clean up in band; recommending some works be put. in band ; that the tar plant was in readiness for operation; stating it was not advisable to commence operations on Sowell Street drain before 'Xmas. Received and approved. it was resolved to procure six more “ silent policemen ’’ for use in the stoets.
Mr Evans moved that in view of the recent outbreaks of fire a meeting be convened of representatives of the Fire Brigade. Eire Board. Insurance Companies, Council and police with a view to discussing the present unsatisfactory conditions to see if some scheme could not be devised to assure more safety to property. Seconded by Mr Orr, supported by the Chairman, and carried. The Council rose at 8.10 p.m.
