A man named James Dempsey employed at the Ruaiapu sawmill had a narrow escape on Wednesday when a large log rolled over part of his body. Fortunately the young man escaped fatal injuries, but ho was badly crushed, and had to he removed to the Westland Hospital for treatment.

Mr Herbert Hennah, one of Grevr,ninth's oldest residents, who for some time had been an inmate of the Old People's Home, died yesterday. Decease was a native of Cornwall. 80 vears of ago and came to New Zealand (*-() years ago. He was engaged in mining at Kiithorglou for many yoais with Havden and pariv. and then came to Greymouth, where he took over the White Horse Hotel (later known as the Caledonian). He had been a member of tin 1 Foresters’ Lodge for many vears. Do-eased. whoso wife predeceased him many years ago. leaves one daughter (Airs John George, Thread needle Street).
