The Canterbury Education Board met at Christchurch on Thursday; present—.Mosers T. Hughes (chairman). J. Maze. G. U . Armitage. \Y’. Johntson. B. Wild, AY. Spence. 11. J, Bigncll. J. \\ . Gow. C. S. Thompson and E. It. Andrews. Appointments made included: Blackball. Alis- I. Gicancy. infant mistress; resignations accepted included: Blackball. Miss AI. Watt.
Mr Bigncll reported that the piece of land near Alcana on the south side of the Arnold ltivcr, West Coast, was unsuitable for tree-planting. He forwarded a letter from Air C. Al’Farlnnc, Crown Bands ranger at Hokitika, recommending a more suitable block. Mr Bigncll was asked to report on that block to next meeting.
The Canterbury Education Board’s senior inspector is arranging lor an exchange of letters between children in Leicester. England, and children in New Zealand.
The New Zealand Educational Institute Inis informed the Canterbury Education Bottl'd that it intends to test the board’s right to stipulate in advertisements that male teachers only will la; .appointed to certain positions.
