The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. | '1 lie Life Insurance Amendment Bill I was reported by the Statutes Revision Committee without amendment. . The Coal .Mines Bill was reported from the Mines Committee with amendments. The Rating Bill was received from the House of Representatives, read a first time and second time pro forma, and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. The Council approved of the amendment effected in the Chattels Transfer Bill by the House of Representatives. The Council passed a motion by Sii Thomas Mackenie recommending the Government to consider the expediency of making provision tor agricultural instruction ot young immigrants.
The Malakaoa Hospital District Hi I i ami the Wanganui City Council Empowering ami Enabling Bill were put through the committee stage and passed unamended. The Napier Harbour Board Rating Regulation Bill, Wlningarci Harhoui Board N esting and Empowering Bill, and Rawhiti Domain Bill were read a second time without discussion. ( iiild Welfare Bill. Electric Wiremen’s Registration Bill and I.ilc Insurance Amendment Bill were passed. Coal Mines Bill was put through Committee and amended. The clause allowing the. Minister to require payments of part confederation for assign mem or transfer of coal mining rights, was deleted, subject to a conference with the House. On the motion ol Hon Mclntyre, the maximum limitation of six members on the Coal Miners Relief Fund local committee was deleted.
The Council adjourned at 1.45 unti 2.31) to-morrow.
THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.3(1. The afternoon sitting was taken tif with a discussion on tilt' education report which was laid on the table. At the evening sitting the following bills were read a first time: Native Washing-up Rill. Unit Valiev Land Settlement Bill. The Main Highways Bill was pul through the committee stage read a third time and passed. Stone Quarries Amendment Bill was committed with an amendment and read a third time and passed, as was also the Apnrentices Amendment Bill. The House rose at 12.30 till 2.30 p.m.
