The adjourned annual meeting was held in the County Chambers on Saturday la-t at 1.3 U p.ni. Mr 1. Dimmirk, President, occupied the chair. The attendance of members, especially from the country was not so good as might have been expect,M. He thanked all those who so cheerfully and loyally assisted him through the year, and although he could have wished lor a term of office showing more tangible results, he was sure all had done their best. The report and balance sheet Were adopted. The election of olliers was then proceeded with. Mr ,1. J. .Mclntosh nominated Mr J. Dimmiek as President for a further vear. He stressed the I act that despite adverse ciremnstnncos not the least of which was a period ot ill-health Mr Dimmiek had kept a brave and enthusiastic front. With more members of a like spirit he was sure the Association would grow and
prosper. The nomination was seconded by Mr Jeffries, and heartily endorsed bv several other sneakers, and conlirmed unanimously. Air Dimmiek thanked the meeting for the expression of confidence, and assured all that he would continue to do his very lasi lor the good of the Assoeia I ion. Mr
J. .1. Mclntosh was unanimously elected Vie,'-President on the nomination of Air Jell'r ies. seconded liy .Mr Elcoel;. Air W. D. Alaekav was re-elected Treasurer, and Mr W. J. Morris, Auditor. On the matter of I lie election of the Committee a general discussion took place, the whole trend of which was the desirability ol bringing about more
energy and interest in the affairs ol the Association. There appeared lon
great a tendeticv lo leave business and work to the willing lour. It was emphasised that the townspeople could not be expected to continue their interest if the count rv people and farmers, for whose benefit, the Association primarily existed, showed inertness and neglect. The Association had been
formed over a quarter of a century ago—in fact as far back as 1803—by those who had ettergv and conlideitee enough to consider such an institution desirable, and alter the lapse of time the District must sitrelv warrant the

It was ultimately decided, upon the motion of Mr Jeffries, seconded bv Mr Mclntosh, that the election of a committee lie deferred, and that a special general meeting he called for Friday. Kith October, at 11 a.m. in. the County Council Chambers, it avaiialhe. and that a determined effort he made to arouse the members and all others whom it was thought should actively support the Association. Consideration of the question of a list of Show Judges for the South Island Federation official list, and of the conditions of the Show Ground were also deferred. The President moved a hearty vote of thanks and appreciation to all outgoing officers, to donors to the funds, and to the Press, the last-named having on every opportunity materially assisted in every was possible.
