Relieved to be the work of a gang which shows remarkable audacity in all its exploits, twenty letter-boxes ami several slot telephones at various points in the city and .suburbs have been rilled during the past week. Mail was stolen from two pillar boxes at Opawa on Saturday night, and several slot telephones in the same district were rilled and the contents stolen. A SUICIDE. UAMAKU, August 21. Robert Robertson, a farmer of South Oamaru, married, conimittted suicide carlv Ibis morning by entiling bis throat with a razor. He was one ol the 11 rst afflicted with infantile paralysis. Though lie hail partially recovered. he had evidently been worrying over bis health and inability to manage Ins farm. SEAMEN INJURED. INVERCARGILL, August 24. Two seamen, Edward and Septworth were returning aboard the .steamer Willastnn at the Blulf on Saturday night when they overbalanced and icli til teen feet to the wharf. The former sustained severe back injuries and the latter a fractured skull. I bey were liospitalled the latter being m a serious condition. .MORTGAGE EXTENSION ABI'EALS. HAMILTON, August- 24. Mr Justice Husking concluded the sitting of the Supreme Court when bo heard local applications under the Mortgages Final Extension Act. Ot sixty cases orders were made in 12, while 3(1 were withdrawn and twelve adjourned.
