Nitkates from the Aik. Proposals are made and preliminaries being arranged for the dotation of a (ompany for the extraction of nitrates from the aii*. The works will be 'situated in the Fjord country at the south-west corner of the .South Island and probably British capital will supplement local investment in the project. There is enormous water power available in the vicinity of Milford Sound t where it is pr<loosed to establish the works) and very deep water for navigation purposes right up to within a few feet of the shore. The Sound is one of many having direct deep opening to the Pacific Ocean. Other materials essential to the manufacture are reported to be abundant and cheaply procured on the spot.
