The coal owners of Smith Wales have announced the termination of the national agreement on their field. I hey have also intimated that their pits wiil he opened on August Ist. on new terms, lo lie announced later. I hov add that their decision in no respect, constitutes a lock out.

In the House of Commons. Mr Baldwin announced that the Court ot enquiry to lie set tip by the Government io investigate the coal mining dispute would consist of the Privy Councillor Mr MacMillan : Mr Yt - fthorwonil. and Mr Josiah Stamp,

The coal millers' attitude lowan.' the proposed Court of Inquiry has not yet been determined, The Kxecuttye of the Miners' Federation lifts been in session at Scarborough all day. and has telegraphed the Ministry for furthei particulars, especially on the point as to whether the coal owners' notice ot the termination ot the National Coal Agreement has boon withdrawn. 7 l'lie Miners’ Executive will announce its decision to-morrow. The Miners’ Federation Executive have decided to with-hold a recommendation for the lit ion Delegate" Conference to accept the Government s Coal Mining Inquiry, until they receive a replv from Mr W. C- Bridgenian assuring them that the owners will suspend or withdraw their proposal', ana their notice to terminate the present National Agreement if the miners cooperate in the enquiry. The Exchange Tclegratih Agency, summarising the views of the coal mmors, savs: —“The Smith Wales minors are hostile to an inquiry as proposed lit the Midlands, including Nottinghamshire. Derby and Leicestershire the minors are in favour of the avoidance of a strike. In Lancashire, the miners altitude is uncertain, and the A nrkshire miners will probably Inflow Mi Herbert Smith (President ol the federation).
