AIR CHAAIBERLAJN’S DILEMMA. LONDON, March' 25.
The “Daily Express” editorially likens Air Chamberlain to a man entering a tangled wood in the darkness with no idea how he is going to emerge. If he fashions a western pact alone lie will disrupt the Empire’s diplomatic unity. If he does not contrive an eastern pact he will not satisfy France, but if he achieves the latter it- would be laughable to imagine that the Dominions would agree to use force against Poland or against Germany, as the ease might- be. FRANCE RELEGATED TO AN INFERIOR POSITION. PARIS, .March 25. While political circles welcome Mr Austen Chamberlain’s speech, “ Gaulois ” says France is thereby relegated to an inferior position. She can only maintain confidence il the signatures of Groat Britain. Italy and Belgium ate alongside Germany’s. “ l.e Oeuvre” says that if Germany admits France’s first principle of security negotiations will be possible. ' The' “ Journal ” expresses the opinion that the proposals would place the signatories in a position conflicting with their duties under the League. It is expected the French Ambassador will inaugurate a discussion with Air Chamberlain leading to an InterAllied agreement, after which the Allies will separate the request of Germany to amplify the proposals.^
