DAIRY CONTROL QUESTION.

'l'lie Associated Chambers of Commerce bare addressed communications to the Westland Chamber of Commerce. p anting out the gravity of tilt position if the control of the sale of dairy produce is reposed completely in the hands of a New Zealand Board. Recognising that the proposal is rather of an experimental nature, and that the future of a great industry is at stake, the Westland Chamber ha--written to the Hon. Minister of Agriculture urging that the pros and con of the ipiestinii should lie weighed fully before definite action is t-keu ii a step which is the subject oi much divided opinion and controversy. The Government has been asked before the coniemnlatcTl Order-in-Couneil is issued to give the fullest, consideration to all aspects alfcoting trading which would result were so large a commercial undertaking as dairying placed under a trade control. It has been pointed out lluit these are times of normal peace alien matters of supple and demand operate automatically, being governed by world conditions outside local influences and in that circumstance it will he diliicult to direct trade without coining into conflict with some outside influence, and which it would not he wise to antagonise without a careful survey ol all possibilities. tin that account serious consideration by Cabinet as a whole was urged so that possible, not to say the probable, effect oil the dairying industry should he considered if the ordinary trading relations which have subsisted lor so long in the successful building up of a great industry in the Dominion are seriously undermined or practically dislocated hv a course which is experimental and which may disorganise finance and restrict seriously the open market enjoyed already to the great advancement of dairying in New Zealand.
