[Reuters Telegrams.] EVIDENCE CRITICISED. LONDON, J'an. 25. ~ Duncan Carmichael (Secretary or London Trades’ Council) and ex-mem-bers of Smithfiekl Control Board, points out that Lord Vestev’s evidence before tlie Food Prices’ Commission only dealt with concerns of under ten millions capital, but Vcstcys admitted to tlie committee investigating trusts in 1920 that they controlled twenty millions of capital. Since then they have bought British and Argentine works. A vital omission from _the evidence concerned the book-keeping methods of the various subsidiary companies between South American ranches and retail shops in Britain. It was the easiest thing for the head office at Rio Janiero to charge an excessive first instance price, thus reducing the intermediate profits, as the American Trust dd. Vos toy s’ evidence relating to the high costs at Darwin need further explanation and emphasised the necessity for the Imperial and Commonwealth Governments co-operating to prevent tho terrible waste of cattle in Australia. •
