While Albert O’Brien with his two daughters Gladys and Catherine, and his niece were returning along a sand spit from Swan river, from a crabbing expedition, they suddenly dropped into deep water. O'Brien and his daughters were drowned and the niece, after a swim of 300 yadds reached the shore where she was found by a search party. WRITS FOR LIBEL. SYDNEY. Jan. 24. Both the Minister of Works and Railways, and the Under-Secretary to the Department, have received writs for libel, issued by one of the unsuccessful tenderers for the harbour bridge, cabled on Nov. 16th. The papers were referred to the Crown Solicitor with a view to defending tho action. ENTRY REFUSED. MELBOURNE, Jan. 24. After the sale of the colt Heroic to Wenke, the latter entered the horse for the Newmarket Handicap. Wenke was summoned before thci Victorian Racing Club Committee regarding ownership of the horse. Later a statement was issued that the evidence did not satisfy the Committee, who had decided to reject the entry. NO SETTLEMENT. SYDNEY, January 24. The seamen all refuse to man the ships at Sydney, and the dispute seems as far from a settlement as ever.
