MOTOR CYCLE SPORTS
The Hokitika Motor Cycle Club held its initial race meeting on the racer course on Saturday afternoon in Hip presence of a large- attendance, the size of which may he gauged hv the gate receipts which totalled £52 10 s. fn held sport of late the sustained interest in the feats of the. All Blacks and the close interest manifested in the test matches, excited much public attention. These games were afar. Motor cycling on a local ground brings all tlic thrills one wants to enjoy in sport, and Sal urday’.s expoiietu-c uas no exception. There were a lew spills which had all tho elements necessary to raise alarm, but fortunately damaged cycles were the sum of the harm done. For material damage to the body corporeal there was ample provision. Medical gentlemen were on the spot closely associated with a motor car, there was also a motor ambulance and stretcher boa rers. Fortunately not any of these necessary accessories to a motor cycle meeting were necessary. So all is well that ends well. The weather held fairly good, except for a couple of light .showers, which bad the effect of cooling the air. The main stand was crowded with people, and the events were closely followed. There wore about a dozen competitors in all, competing in the different events, all the contest-; arousing considerable interest. The officials were numerous and attentive t.o their duties, the events being got off well to time. The following were the results:— Novice Motor Handicap, 4 laps; Ist £3 and trophy. 2nd. £1 and trophy: special prize for fastest time kl Is donated by Mr J. Chapman:—J. Xeame 1. .T. Chapman 2. A. Time 5.31 4- >. Slow Motor Race 200 yards, trophy prizes:—V. Bergamini 1. D. Beck 2. Westland Motor Championship, 1 I laps; Ist. CIO and gold medal, donated by Adams Lt. 2nd. £3 and tionhy: —J. Xeamo 1. J. Janies 2. A. Chapman 3. Time 14.11 4-5. J. Chapman,, when leading near the finish bv a safe margin, had a spill which put his machine out of action.

The efforts of the-contestants on the bumpy grass track to keep up pace for the mile and n-half caused considerable amusement to the onlookers. To the evening at a smoke concert at Mclntosh's Cluli rooms the prizes were distributed, and a social hour passed in toast, song .and story.
