RETURNED SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION.

GENERAL MEETING. A meeting of members of the Returned Soldiers’ Association was held at the Soldiers’ Hall last evening. Mr . D. J. Evans (President of the local ( Branch) presided . The Chairman reported that the sale of poppies in connection with Anzac Day realised Cl!) 9s fid, a chorine for that amount having been received from the Mayoress (Mrs Perry) that day. The amount had been forwarded to District Headquarters at Christchurch, and later a proportion of the amount would he available for local employment. This would be sttdsidised as usual by the Beautifying Society. The amount was not as large as previously, hut the weather proved boisterous and for some of the country districts tile poppies were received too late. Assistance in regard to the sale of poppies had been lent by Airs Singer, the school teachers, senior pupils, and W. Urqtiliart. S. J. Preston. Along with the ladies and gentlemen mentioned. a cordial vote of thanks was recorded to Mrs Perry for organising the sale. The Secretary (Air T. Kerr) reported that the total funds received on account of the building fund from April Ist. 1923. to Alav 192-1, was £Bl7 18s (id. A list of the donors was plated on tile table. It was resolved to thank very cordially all those wiio bad assisted in organising the fund. 'flic expenditure on the ball to Alav bad been (782 l-ls 7,i. 'lbis sum included (.'250 on account of purchase, and (50 lor removal There remained a final payment of (100 on the hall, and this amount was in sight. and would lie paid immediately. It was Imped to discharge all small accounts owing on the hall as it stands, within a

week or two. It was decided to have the interior of the hall and annexe painted, and also to purchase the piano. A special vote of thanks was accorded the ladies’ e'liiimittee for their untiring services in connection with the

hall and the raising of the funds. The Secretary reported that the general account of the local brunch, apart from the building fund showed a credit of £2l Is 9d. All accounts ow-

ing were passed for payment. It was resolved to enlarge the general committee, and the following were elected: T. Kerr. 11. .1. Slinud. R. Paterson, I. Bain. T Stuart. T. Lynch. A. Snell. )). Dowell. Reference was made !•• the bazaar and sale of work to be held next week, and working bees were arranged to

assist the ladies in preparing the hall for the display.

Messrs Bain. Paterson. Snell. SFlund. Dowell and others referred to various matters affecting the welfare of the Club, and several matters will lie taken up. Mr Snell offered to assist in any way to help the establishment of the Cliilinmms. which il was considered would lie a great lit,on to the men. It was decided to take up the question of completing the front portion of the building as soon as the result of the ha/oar was known, il was resolved ! • organise a monster art union for the benefit of the building fluid. Several of those present spoke apprei intivcly of the public support accorded. and of the general assistance rendered on all sides to the local organisation. It was resolved in acknowledge the practical lielo receive:! from all and sundry with an advertisement of t hanks. A vote of thanks to the chair was carried by acclamation and the meeting concluded.
