The “N.Z. Times" states: It is understood that the Union Company has not sent it .steamer from Lyttelton to visit the West Coast for two months, because there is no cargo for the return voyage. Rail and motor take the lot. Speakers at the Timber Conference at Wellington said it was t|iiitc wrong to imagine that the best of New Zealand timbers were being sent to Australia. One speaker said it was not our heart timber Australia wanted: they wanted the softer wood.
