RELATIONS SEVERED. AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CAM.E ASSOCIATION. MEXICO CITY, June 18. The British Premier has informed the Mexican Consul-General at London that relations will he broken off should Mexico expel the British Charge d’Alfairs. Mr Herbert Cummins, before the arrival of a British Diplomatic Mission in Mexico. In consequence of this intimation, the Mexican ConsulGeneral has lieen instructed to reply that it is impossible for Mexico to countenance Mr Cummins’ attitude any longer. It i- reported that Mr Cummins is ready to leave Mexico immediately upon the reeeint of instructions to do so from his own Government. MEXICO’S REPLY. WASHINGTON. June 18. It is >:ii(| that Mexico’s reply to the British Government disagreed with the view that Mexico’s request for Mr Cummins’ recall constituted a discourteous ait. and asserted as an elementary principle that any Government at any time has a right to request that other Government* recall diplomats, and it is a duly, under international enmity, to withdraw them, and not endeavour to impose them on other countries. It was fully roali.-oi! that this attitude in defence of Mexican national honour would mean the cancellation of the proposed British Mission to Mexico, but Mexico only defended its dignity as a sovereign nation.
