The Mayor (Mr G. A. Ferry) has received the following telegram from t-c Education Board, Christchurch : “Fares children visiting warship 11s 2d. Please advertise asking schools supply Education Board with information as to the number likely to travel, all being subject to satisfactory billeting in Christchurch.” In conformity with the above an advertisement appeal's in this issue. School teachers are invited to ascertain as soon as possible the number wishing to travel, and to state how many would require billets arranged. It- will o; couise lie preferable lor all who can, to arrange their own accommodation with relatives or friends (to be approved by the teacher in charge). Teachers should communicate the information required to the County Office, Hokitika, by letter or telephone, not later than Friday, when the particulars will he compiled, and the Canterbury Education Board, advised of the number. The invitation to school children includes also the pupils of the Convent schools. In all cases teachers should exercise judgment as to the ages of the children proposing to traced, coupled with their ability to look after themselves to a considerable extent. The excursion will be under the charge of the teachers to be appointed for the purpose. As tho time for notification is very limited, the information required should be ascertained without delay and forwarded forthwith.
