A MURDER CHARGE.
yocth shoots old man. [BY TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ASHBURTON, June 13. Albert Frederick Maxwell Kissel, aged 18, a ploughman employed by David Little, near Coldstream, 25 miles south of Ashburton, was arrested this afternoon and charged with the murder of .catties Henry Suring McKenzie, aged Go, caretaker at the homestead of John Studholmc. on the Coldstream Estate, by a rille shot. Kissel belongs to Lobtirn, North Canterbury. He is a well-built lad. The deceased is believed to have come from Lyttelton, and worked for some time at Quail Island. The particulars to hand are to the effect that Kissel went to work as usual this morning. After working some hours, lie mentioned to his employer that lie had shot McKenzie the previous night. On visiting the homestead Little found McKenzie lying dead oil the floor in his pyjamas, shot through the chest with a .11 bore sporting rifle. Kissel said ho did not know why he shot him. Tt is understood that they had been friendly, Kissel frequently spending his evenings with McKenzie alter work. The police believe that Kissel suffered from delusions. The body was brought to the morgue and arrangements have been made for an inquest and post-mortem. The accused conies before the Court to-morrow, when a remand will bo asked for eight days to enable tho accused to be kept under observation.
