FREE STATE ARMV. CHANGE IN COMMAND. AUSTRALIAN AND N'.Z. CAULK ASSOCIATION. (Received this day at 8.50 u.iu.) LONDON, April !». Important changes are pending in the higher command of the Free State Army. For same time past there has been much dissatisfaction in Ireland in regard to the army. Since the death of Collins it ha- been run by the Army Council, consisting of General Mulenhy (Commander-in-Chicf), General MaoMahon (Chief of Stall'), Lieut.-General O'Sullivan (Adjutant-General). Sean Omnii thvilli- < Cluarteniiaster-General). Major General Dermot O’Hegarty (Director of Intelligence). These men were prominent in the Anglo-Irish lighting, but none are trained soldiers. All are ardent Gaelic Leaguers, and many friends of the Free State have been ol the opinion that too much attention is living paid to the development of the Gaelic army and too little to the development of an efficient fighting force. Recently these misgivings have crystallised and now apparently the Government has derided oil action. It is understood tlie Governor-Gen-eral used his influence in the matter commit tee is about to he farmed which will assume all the Army c.0...0i1s iunctions. The Committee will consist of Messrs O'Higgins (Ulnnrman). Go-grove, .foe McGrath. Generals Mulcaliy and MacMahon. It seems to be a compromise as it contains two of tlie prim ipal member- of the old Army Council. By the presume oi three civilians, more particularly, the fact that O’Higgins is Chairman, itwill ensure civil supremacy in till Arm) affairs.
