THE ELSIE ASHORE.

I lie auxiliary schooner Elsie went ashore on the north beach yesterday aiteri ■< ion when attempting to enter the river. There was a fair sea running at the time, and there were no .signals on the station. The ship crossed tlie bar safely, but then was struck by a heavy set out of the river running round the north wall, and was swung broadside on. tlie wind and johlile of the ,-ea caught her and she ai mice lost way and wn s unable to advance. The current then caught her and she drifted to the north and in a few minutes was ashore on the beach, about 300 yards north of the north wall. The ship now lies on the beach and is high and dry at low water, mid is apparently undamaged. No attempt is possible at present to refloat her owing to the heavy sea. but if the .sen moderates it is possible she "ill lie able to be towed out to sea if the services of a tug are available. Uiherwiso it "ill be probably necessary to launch the vessel into the river, which would entail a considerable expense.
