HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
FRIDAY FEB 9th. The Council met at 8 p.m. Present: Messrs Coulson (Deputy Mayor in tho Chair), J. King, A. G. Pilkington, F. McGregor and J. Lloyd. Apologies wore made for the absence of Messrs Perry, Perhain, Wood, Blank and Parkliill. Tho minutes were confirmed and outward correspindenco approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. ** From Kortegast Bros., agreeing to installation of water meter.—Received. From Blackball Picnic Committee asking for use of Cass Square on Fob. 17tli.—Received and request granted. From Clements Motors Ltd. in conuectiin with installing water-meter. — Received. Referring to this, Mr Lloyd said tho firm should he written to and requested not to wash their cars in the street, and also not to keep them standing in the roadway causing a danger to traffic. Mr McGregor said it would be ns well to notify tho Borough staff to clean the gutters in that vicinity when doing the usual clean up. No action was taken. From West-land County Council stating the licensing fees received for the year were £550 11s.—Received. From Department of Internal Affairs notifying as Anzac Day fell on tho da) t set down for Municipal elections, the date had been altered to the next day, • April 26tli.—Received. From A. T. Burt, quoting for 8-mcli water meter.—Received. From "Westland branch of Canterbury Automobile Association, asking for places for parking motor cars.—Received ■ referred to bye-laws which deal with the matter. Mr Pilkington suggested that as tho bye-law was at present a dead letter that it ho put into force. From Department of Health, stating in connection with the ot septic, tanks, the Council’s requirements would receive attention. Re-

From Westland Chamber of Commerce conveying resolution of local bodies’ conforenca ns follows:—“That the Conference suggests to tho Borough Council to consider ways and means for asphalting a considerable section of Hevell St., thereby improving the road for traffic, and minimising tho dust and other nuisances arising from the present state of the piincipal thoroughfares and inviting favourable consideration ol the Council tlieieto. Received. Mr Coulson stated as a representative of the Council at tho Conference lie had supported the motion. He moved that the request receive favourable considration, and that the Overseer report as to the cost of tli proposd Improvements. Seconded by Mr Lloyd and carried. From same inviting Councillors to ho present at tho meeting on Friday next, at the Town Hall in connection with the proposed central dairy factory at Hokitika, the matter being one ot great importance to the district.—Re(rived. , From lion W. The greater part of the month has been taken up with clearing of different streets and chains of'"'' growth, parts of Bealev, Meld, Buttan. Sewell Street drains hate bcu cleaned out and blackberry and othei growth have been cut down in Brittan, flail Park. Sowell and Fitzhorbert Streets Brittan Street footpath between Stafford and Weld Street has b>cu cleaned ol overgrowth. Ruling the month an inspection of the p«l£ [jne has been made from the Kescitou to the Lake and found in good mdel. only a few small leaks being locate and repaired.
