POLITICAL POSITION. AFTER THREE DAYS. SPECIAL TO OUAItTMAN. WELLINGTON. Feb 10. The first three days ol the short sassion have passed without Parliament itself making any materia! progress toward- the settlement of the question it was summoned to decide. I lit politicians may have done something toward- adjusting their differences, hilt even (if that there is no tangible evidence. The general feeling in the lobbies, however, is that the session will close Ci the Government in a position to carry on. at least till the meeting of Pariiaiue’.it-, at the regular time in .1,1110. IPs’tenure of office, depending upon three Independent Liberal votes, may not he very comfortable, but it uili !■•■ s"cure mumgli while the revolutionary element continues to dominate the Labour Party. 11OSTILL y\MEXDMENTS. It was expected that Mr Holland would inova a hostile amodment to the Addie-s-iii-Reply. since displays ol G,i, kind are the very meat and drink of the Leader of the Labour Party, hut it was thought Mr Milford would test rw his lire till a more opportune time. H may he. however, a good tactical move to get an expression ol opinion from lln> I Inure on electoral reform, though in the circumstances it may he shaped rather li.v Party exigence's than by personal conviction. ihe discussion also may bring the Reformers and the Liberals a little nearer to an agreement on the question. LAST TRIBUTES. The tributes paid to the late Mr W. T. .Jennings in both the [louse and the Council yesterday were among the most cordial and emphatic rendered to anv politician during the existence of flic- New Zealand Parliament. One of tho most touching and generous came fiout Air J. C .Rolleston. his successful opponent, in the recent contest for the Waitomo seat.
