HOKITIKA BRANCH. A meeting of tile Executive of the local branch was held at the Diid Shed last night: —Present: Messrs D. J. Evans (President), T. Kerr, H. . Shnnd. (Milan. T. Stuart, and O’Drisi coll. 1 The Secretary reported in respect to 1 the recent successful reunion, and votes of thanks were passed to Col. Young and Mr l.eadley for t'heir attendance. Accounts in connection with ; the function were passed for payment. Headquarters, Christchurch, in respect i to the revision of land values affecting ' soldier settlements. The matter was I referred to the President to confer | with tho Commissioner of Crown Lands ' in regard to any evidence, required in cases when the soldier settlers thought revision was necessary, i The President brought forward a ; proposal to establish a club room. It 1 'as stated that the Horticultural j llall would he available shortly, and | the cost for necessary alterations would | not be large. Tt was stated that there I was a desire for a club room on tho j part of the men, and Mr Evans suggested a general meeting bo called for the purpose of discussing the proposal. The meeting was fixed for Wednesday 13th. iiist, at the Town Hall at 8 p.m. and to he open to returned men, veterans and those of the public who would care to join as honorary members. Sub-committees were appointed to go into the cost involved, and also in regard to the finance, and these repot ts will he given to the general meeting. The proposal was accepted as a very good one in the interests of the men, and it was felt good results would follow. when local quarters wore provided. The President stated a billiard table had been promised some time ago. and that offer was still available for acceptance. Mr Evans added that if tho Club became permanently established on satisfactory lines he thought they could go further and later build an Anzac Hall which could he made revenue producing. That, however, would depend on the response of tho men to the initial proposal in regard to tile quarters now proposed to he put in order for the purpose.
