Improved Communication

USEFUL MOTOR SERVICE. Clements Motors Ltd., of Hokitika are about to inaugurate several useful motor services in and about the district, and beyond, which will give greatly improved means of communication, and bo of great value to the„_ travelling public. This firm has now become wall established, and possess; ing a fine fleet of modern poweflul ~ cars is ablo to cater for the public in regard to quick transit to any destination where roads serve. The fact that Clements’ cars have been as far south as Knrangarua along the main south road of the West Coast, shows the penetrating possibilites of the services which can be supplied with the welL found cars always kept in readiness 'Tor- * traffic demands. The firm is about to inaugurate its summer time-table, and in doing so will make a new departure by opening a through motor service, twice weekly, between Hokitika and Greymouth on the West Coast, to Christchurch on the East Coast. The time-table comes into force on the Ist of next month, and i the Christchurch regular service will , be inaugurated on Saturday, December x 2nd from Hokitika. The service will run twice weekly from the Coast to Canterbury, Thursday and Saturdays, (at 7.30 a.m.) being the days of departure. The time scheduled for arrival in Christchurch the same afternoon is 6 o’clock. The return journey, starting from New Zealand Government Tourist Office, Cathedral Square, Christchurch is fixed for 7.30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays, arriving at Greymouth or Hokitika at 6j).m. same day! Visitors going east may leave here on Thursdays and return on Saturday; or departing Saturday, may return on Tuesday. .It will be a very convenient service, and the fares, which, will he reasonable, may bo gleaned on application at the Company’s garage, Weld St. The regular Hokitika-Otira motor- ~ mail service will be continued as at present on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in each week, and daily during the holidays, to connect with all trams. In addition the Hokitika to n aiho Gome, Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers service will be carried out all through, the summer .departing from Hokitika on Sundays and Wednesdays olid returning from south on Tuesdays and Fridays. . , Another important addition to the local services will be the Hokitika to Greymouth and vice versa, fitting with the overland. South Westland, and Reefton train service. A car will leave Hokitika for Greymouth every Wednesday and Friday night at 8 o’clock, and the eon-ice from the north, Greymouth to Hokitika will run on Tuesday and Saturday nights. This service* will he very convenient far travellers to Reefton, Westport and beyond, or vice' versa for travellers _ coming south. Tho firm with its fine fleet of cars will he able at any time to arrange special trips to anywhere in the South Island, and cars will be available always for district tour trips to all points of interest, as the service may be required. For special runs to Christchurch. cars will be in readiness at any time, and with experienced and careful drivers, quick and safe journeys maybe rcilied upon. The charges for these special trips will be by arrangement, Imt. the firm is out to do business, and the rates will be reasonable.

It is the intention of Clements Motors Ltd. to build up a large provincial connection prior to the exhibition period of next year, and no doubt the several services to be inaugurated will tend to advertise the district widely, and make Coast tours_,_ very popular among visitors who will be ‘travelling in very large numbers. During the coming year the fleet of cars will bo added to by another large t Hiring ear mainly for the south trip, and extra provision is to be made also for the. carriage of mails and parcels to prevent undue crowding for passengers on the cars. The whole of the traffic will be under the personal direction of Mr Clements, who has had wide experience of the requirements of the. public, and who knows very thoroughly the loading conditions to be encountered. Mr Clements lias proved an energetic pioneer m the establishment of the services above referred to, and is to lie congratulated on the enterprise shown by the firm with wluci he is so closely and successfully fied.
