THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.

The Distinction and the Difference. “How does the Liberal policy differ from the Reform Party’s?” asked Mr Buddo, Liberal candidate for Kaiapoiy “First we favour electoral reform. The Government prefers first past tho post. We favour a prompt revaluation of soldiers’ lands. The Government appoints a commission. We want a reform of public finance and a stoppage of waste. I draw attention to tho financial record of the Government to show what they are in favour of. Wo want a State shipping line and control of freights. The Reform Party is solidly against this. We want to reduce railway freights and fares. The GGovernment says ‘as you were.’ Wo want defence to he equal to necessity. The Government does not seem to have any interest in the question. Wo favour special consideration for persons with families, invalids and pensioners. Tho Government does not think the matter important enough for notice. The Liberal Party favours giving the workers a voice in their own industries maintaining and improving arbitration; establishing an Advances Department to help secondary industries and a comprehensive housing scheme. Trusts and combines should be prohibited. We have had no results from the present law. Generally, the Liberal Party wishes to promote legislation and especially administration that "ill benefit the great mass of tho people.”
