The Westland Progress League meets at the County Chambers to-night at 7.30 o’clock. North Island mails and passengers connected with the West Coast express at Christchurch this morning. A meeting of tht Ladies’ Hockey Club will be held at the Supreme Hall to-morrow (Wednesday) evening at 7.30 o’clock. All members are requested to attend.—Advt. Arrangements Tor the Grand Carnival Ball are nearing completion and everything points to a very jolly evening. We have the streamers, confetti, and balloons to hand, and these alone are enough to put folks in a merry mood. Masks will be lifted at 11 p.m. when costumes are judged.

To-night Mr Seddon is to speak at the Public Hall, Kanieri, and later at Rimu. The week-end is to be spent ill South Westland, and on his return trip Mr Seddon will visit and speak at Wnitaha Settlement, and then pay a visit to the Arahura Valley.

The Westland electoral roll for use at the general election totals B.BAO names. From this number is deducted 268 names that have been removed owing to transfers and deaths since the Main and No 1 Supplementary Rolls were printed. The net number on the roll, therefore is 8,352.

On the bowling green last evening in a game for the Dominion Ferns. Messrs Bishop and Blank, the holders defeated Messrs Wells and Aldridge-by 22 to 12. There was quite a busy scene on the green from five o’clock until dusk, a large muster being present.

Messrs M. Houston and Co. announce the date for the auction sale of Mr J. C. Hende’s fine property at Evans Creek will take place on Saturday, 2nd Decepibcr, at noon. In addition to the property there will also be sold the valuable furniture including piano and live and dead stock. Full particulars appear in this issue.

A reminder is given of the euchre tournament to lit; held ait St Mary’s Club Rooms to-morrow (Wednesday) evening commencing at 8 o’clock sharp. The tickets have found a ready sale so that a monster evening is assured. The prizes- for the euchre have been kindly donated by Miss Mandl and Mr W. J. Jeffries and should ensure keen competition. The floor is in capital order for the dance, a bountiful supper will also be provided, all for the sum of one shilling admission. —Advt.
