< JIcLAREN’S TEAM. . AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION 1 (Received this day at 8 a.m.) i ADELAIDE, Nov. 12. There was glorious weather for the cricket match and the wicket was perfect. The attendance was five thousand. The Englishmen resumed play which was stylish and elegant blit slow, the batsmen lacking punishing power. The first fifty runs took fifty-eight minutes to accumulate. Then ITilliwood touched an off ball from A. Richardson and the wicket-keeper held it. Titchmarsh, small of stature, adopted very defensive tactics until he was badly run out by AVilkinson, when just on the brink of double figures. Calthorpe softly returned the first ball he received from Loveridge to the bowler. At luncheon the score was eighty, after eighty-five minutes play, which was very- slow. Chapman with reputation for fast scoring quickly got to work with boundaries to the ofT and leg from Loveridge. He was very quick and enterprising between the wickets and proved a very free bat with a stroke for evervhall. In forty minutes, lie scored thirty two, and was then sharply taken by the wicket-keep-er off Townsend. AA’ilson commenced freely hitting the first hall nppishly and the second to long on. This brought AVilkinson in front of AVilliams and off his first ball the wicketkeeper appealed, first for stumping and then for a catch, the latter being successful AVilkinson played very careful nnd correct cricket, but was not inspiring. When Mnclaren came in he was given a great reception. The players gathering round him gave three cheers. The following are the scores: SOUTH AUSTRALIA—Ist Innings. A r .
