CHARGED WITH MURDER. ASHBURTON. Aug 28. Samuel Holland appeared before Justices this morning, charged witli the murder of James Gill on Saturday night. The police’ made application for a remand until September oth., which was granted. Accused’s Counsel applied for hail, which was opposed by the police. Bail was allowed, m a total sum of £I,OOO.
FOUND DROWNED. AUCKLAND, August 28. The body found in the harbour Ims been identified ns Herbert Gandy, with no relatives in New Zealand. He was last seen alive in his lodgings two hours before the body was discovered. HIT BY TRAMOAR. AUCKLAND, August 28. Charles Lewis Johnson, forty, a mechanic, was hit hv a tramcar when crossing the street and sent to the hospital. His condition is critical. HANGED IN CELL. AUCKLAND. Aug. 28.
