In the second set'he served still further to show that the Australians were the better doubles players, though Alonzo was unrivalled for covering the court. Gbmar was distinctly the weakest of the lour. Patterson’s service was agilin too much for his opponents. In the last set they made a. little better shotting, winning the first game, and then the fourth and fifth in succession. Patterson hit everything hard and tho ball sometimes could hardly be seen for speed. The Spaniards also secured the seventh game, but that was tho end of their success. In the last game, Patterson with two double faults .permitting his opponents to work up to deuce, then served two aces, taking the match. NEW YORK, Aug. 10. O’Hara-Wood defeated Gomar 6—B, 3 6j (j_o, G— 4, o—l. The Australians thus defeated the Spaniards. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 10. Patterson won the first three games, then the scores alternated. Patterson’s service was untouchable, the returns going into the net in the second set. Alonzo won the second, love and fifth 4—2. The hitting was fast and free. In the third set Alonzo won the first. (Patterson cutting returns) and the seventh, but the Australian’s speed told in the others.
