Tlie monthly meeting was held at 7,30 o’clock. Present; Messrs G. A. Perry (Chairman), W. .T. Butler, P. Wild, .T. Pitchie. T. AY. Duff, T. AV. Bruce. J. .T. Mclntosh. M. 11. Houston and D. J. Evans, (lion secretary). The minutes of the previous meeting ere confirmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved. From Chief Postmaster, Greyniouth, notifying that the Department _ could not entertain the proposal (owing to the present cost) of extending the second weekly mail to Matainui. until tlie Little Wanganui river bridge was available for traffic - . Peecived. It was stated that the bridge would he available inside of three mouths’ time. From Resident Engineer, Greyniouth stating it was realised tlutt the excessive speed of heavy lorries on the south road was responsible for the serious damage to the road, and the question of limiting loads and speed was now under consideration.—Received. I lie Chairman thought the matter should he grappled with in another way. Motor lorry traffic was proving the most expeditious and economical moans of transport, and the roads should be improved in that direction. This view was concurred in generally, and it was resolved to write in that strain, at the same time agreeing that both for safety and to avoid excessive - damage, the rate of speed of heavily laden lorries should lie restricted.

From Hokitika Borough Council replying that it had been decided to raise a. loan of £5.000 for permanent street and drainage improvements, providing the money could he borrowed at a reasonable rate of interest. Received with expressions of satisfaction.^ . From Department of Industries notifying visit of British Empire Exhibition Mission on July Uth.—Received, ft was resolved to co-operate in showing points of interest as far as the limited time of the Mission’s stay permitted. The Charman and Messrs Butler and AVilcl were appointed a subcommittee to make any necessary arrangements. It was decided to hold a public meeting at tlie Town Hall at night ,anel invite the members of local bodies, manufacturers, those interested in dairying and settlement, and the public generally, to the meeting. GENERAL.

The Treasurer submitted statement showing a credit balance of £37 Is 3d. It was resolved to co-operate with the Progress League in arranging for Dr Teiehelmnnn to give a series of illustrated lectures in AVellington on the scenic and industrial attractions ot Westland. n , Accounts in the amount ol £-'(> l-R (id wore passed for payment.
