INTER-ISLAND AfAT(TL AUCKLAND, July 1. The. North v. South Island Rugby football mutch was played to-day at Ellen Park. There was a fair crowd present. The ground was greasy, as the result of recent heavy rains.
It proved u strenuous game from beginning to end, the South Island winning by nine points (three tries) to eight (two tries, one converted).
The play was mostly of a forward nature, hut occasionally the southern hacks gave glimpses of a high standard of Rugby. The North Island • forwards were slightly better tliail the South vanguard. 11l the first spell Brownlee and Hickey Mined for the North Island, one of the tries being converted. In the second spell Steele. AA’illiams and Fitzgerald scored for the South Island, none of the trios being converted.
During the match Belfis, Burrell and O’Brien (North Island) retired through injuries, and Steel and Mbyte (South Island) retired for a similar cause. ATr AY. Aleredith was referee.

AUSTRALIA DEFEAT AUCKLAND. AI’CK LAXDN, July 2. The Australian Soccer team defeated Auckland by four goals to one. The game was played in wet weather, the ground being slippery and the ball greasy, after the heavy vain falling early ill the day. The visitors outclassed the local team.
