The Park Case.
THE MINISTER’S COMMENT
[by TELEGRAPH—PER riIESS association] I . WELLINGTIN, July 3 I r l’li o Minister of Education comment ing on the judgment in the Park ease, considers the latter trifling, compared with tlie far reaching results of the judgment. The regulation giving the Minister power to cancel certificates has been in force for forty years, and probably at least twenty teachers have had their certificates taken away. Some have committed crimes. Quite recently one was convicted of sedition. If the decision is sound, Government might be called on to restore the certificates to people, admittedly unworthy. Its effect is that the certificate stands for life and ovon a. murderer could not have it taken away. In the interests of the teachers themselves, such a. position should not he allowed. The Solicitor-General was now considering the matter, and would advise him. Another point was that there was hundreds of native and private •school teachers who do not come under the Education Board at all. Now it appeared that the Minister could not, in any wav, control their certificates.
