VIENNA, April 20. Having lost its place as the chief city of the former Hupsburg monarchy, Yicima is determined, if she can, to become tho first pleasure capital of Europe. A great scheme is on foot to combine the whole area from the Parliament building to the Ilofbnrg, the former Imperial Palace in the heart of the city, and the adjacent museums into one gigantic square, which wil be larger and handsomer than the Place do la Concorde in Paris. The splendid new wmg of the Itotl)iivo is to he used as a theatre, restau - rant, and concert-hall. It cost several million pounds to build, and consists mostly of huge apartments, spacious corridors, and staircases. A foreign syndicate is about to convert the Imperial Palace at Laxenbuig outside Vienna, the favourite summer residence of the Emperor I' rnnois Joseph, and its magnificent park into a huge pleasure resort with hotels, theatres, baths, racecourse, casino, am! cverv other sort of attraction. An extension of the tramway service, which comes within two miles of the palace gates, is to be laid down. Thousands of Americans are including Vienna in the programme for their summer trip to Europe, and many have hooked rooms.
