NEWS AND NOTES.

SEA BATTLE SECRET

LONDON, April 0

Interesting revelations are made regarding British sources of information in the "early part of the war in an article which'fins just appeared in the German -Marine Bundschnu dealing with the Dogger Bank action ol January 21, 1915. The article is written by the officer who is compiling the North Sen portion of the German Naval History <>t the. YY’ar. Mr Filson Young in his hook, ‘‘With the Battle Cruisers,” has shown that verv definite news of this German raid, which resulted in the sinking of the Bluchcr, reached the British Admiralty in time to allow ot steps being taken to intercept the German force. An intelligent reader of that hook must have guessed that this information came from some source other than agents in Holland and Germany. It is now stated that when the German light cruiser Magdeburg was sunk in the Baltic: on August 20, 191-1, the German cotiehooks which were thrown overboard when it was seen that the ship mightfall into the hands of tho Russians were iocovered by the Russians, and thus cverv message made by the Geiman Fleet by wireless could ho read by the Allies. "

The German Admiralty appear to have been unaware of this find by the Allies, and to have assured that British agents were responsible for the news of this raid and of other German enterprises. How long this partitular source of information lvmainoo available cannot he known until further particulars come to light, hut it would he interesting to know what hearing the possession of it had on the later events of the war.
