U.S.A. FARMERS. WASHINGTON, May 4. The Hon. Mr Mellon (of the Ministry) appearing before the House Banking Committee, urged the extension fom another year of the War Finance Corporation, which makes loans to farmers. He declared the financial position was rapidly improving, and was well on the way to normal conditions, especially regarding agricultural industry. ANTI-BOLSHEVIKS CHARGED. WASHINGTON, May 5. Senator Borah, in a speech in the Senate, urged the deportation of Semenoff, the anti-Bolshevik leader from Siberia. Senator Borah reiterated the charges which have been made in recent hearings before the courts. He also charged Boris Bakhmeteff, the ambassador appointed by the Kerensky Government and now in America, with breaking faith with the American Government, by investing, for his personal use, part of $187,000,000 loaned him by the American Treasury,
GRIM FIGHT WITH POLICE. NEW YORK, May 4. At Canton in Ohio, two men were killed and five seriously wounded (two prohably fatally) in a. grim battle between a band of desperadoes and the police, and a citizens’ posse of gunmen. They kidnapped policemen who were attempting to arrest them for violation of the motor speed limit. The desperadoes were coming to Canton to aid in the escape of a notorious hank-robber, called “ Okloboiii Slim,” who is in prison at Canton. The latter’s cell bars were found sawn through. The desperadoes bound and gagged the policemen and brought them to a deserted farm house, where other police followed them. A battle ensued. After one of their number was killed the remaining gunmen deserted tho farmhouse, when a running fight ensued, hut they escaped. A TEXAS TORNADO. Poreived This Day at IV Ifl a m * NEW YORK, May 5.
