Monkey Gland Substitute
—... NEW “CURE” FOR OLD AGE. NEW YORK, Fdi. 12. Extraordinary results in the rejuvenation of men and women have been achieved, it is claimed, through a sinfple operation, devised hv lierr Stomach, a Viennese professor. They arc described to-day by Dr Harry Benjamin, one of bis pupils, in a paper in which he has officially introduced the new operation to the American medical profession. He emphasises that the flteinach method differs from all those which have recently attracted attention in that there is no transplanting of monkey glands or any foreign bodies: “All that is done.’’ says Dr Benjamin, “is to tie a vessel which produces stimulation to a certain gland.” Only a local anaesthetic is us'ed and the patient is required to remain only three days in bed. One of the eases cited is that of a man of 71 who came to the A ienna General Hospital suffering from an acute abscess. While being operated on for abscess he was “Steiiiached” without liis knowledge. “Nine months later,” says Dr Benjamin, “the man reported that he was abounded by the remarkable changes in his health, lie had icgained lull iikmit.il and physical efficiency and his masculinity had reawakened. No one could believe that he was well into his 72nd year.” > Tile operation lias been tested so many times, states Dr Beniamin, that it can safely he considered outside tile state of experiment. It is not claimed Unit the opera lion will definitely prolong the span ol human life, for, says Dr Benjamin, “there is no way of finding out what limit Providence has set on human life. But the undoubted fact,” he affirms, “is that t.he operation prolongs that part of a man’s life in which he is a social asset when producing and earning. Creative genius, a singer’s voice, a statesman’'} ambition can all he given a fresh lease <d life.” Both serves, according to Herr Stomach, are equally benefited. Women can have their youthful appearance restored, lose wrinkles, and grow a fresh head of hair of the original colour, it is said.
