[BY TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION] BLENHEIM, .March 25 Ideal rowing weather prevailed, and there was smooth water all the way, lor the sculling championship of New Zealand, which was rowed on the Wairau River to-day between Fog well (holder) and Hannan (challenger). The scullers contended with a tide at the ebb.

Fogwell got the better start. He also went off at a slightly quicker stroke. Hannan had some trouble with Iris left scull.

Fogwell established a lead of half a length. Hannan, however, soon settled down. At the end of half a mile lie was on even terms with Fogwell. Hannan gradually drew nwav, and at the miKc lie was a hare length ahead. The first mile was done in 6min losec. At this stage Fogwell was splashing a lot. Fogwell was doing a nice even stroke, rowing 22 to the other man’s 26. Coming round the first bend, Hannan increased his lead to two lengths. Coming to the second bond, Fogwfcll quickened, and he picked up over a length. Once round this bend, Hannan settled down to business, and when lie entered the straight he was three and a-lialf leUgfilis clear. This was the end of the second mile, which took also 6min losec.

Fogwell now proved to be done, and Hannan, going on as he liked, won comfortably by 10 lengths. The time was 18min oOsec.

Hannan’s supporters are anxious that he should challenge the winner of the Ha dfield-Pa ddo ll race.

He gave a greatly improved showing to-day on his performance against Arnst. This is attributed to his having a new boat, and to tide fact that his wrist is now completely recovered.
