Before the first race rain began to J fall, and the weather became con- j siderably worse as the afternoon wore j on. Conditions were so bad that when 1 the homes came out for the fourth j. race they were given their prelimin- j aries and then taken back to theii , stalls until starting time. This course ) was adopted for the remaning races , on the programme. The attendance. J was very good, all tbmgp considered, j but the majority of' the spectators ’ were content to remain on the- stands, j Betting was slightly better than on j the first day, the sum of £5760 being, recorded, making a total for the meet- j ing of £10,453, a decrease of £2031 on last year’s figures. Mr Roche acquitted himself satisfactorily a.t the barrier, bis despatches being highly j creditable. There was little to engage the attention of the Stipendiary Ste- j ward (Mr G. Curry). the only matters ] for the two days being an inquiry into the running of Lord Ashlea, which was answered to the satisfaction of the Sipendiary, and a caution being administered to one of the riders for crossing. Flying Hack Handicap.—Sunbath 1, Redsome 2, WoKhea 3. Won easily. Time 1.5 1-5 Waimangaroa Trot. —Prince Charlie I, We sleigh 2, Elite 3. Won comfortably. Time 2.34. Duller Handicap.—Falstaff 1, Steepholm 2, Lady Middleton 3- Mon by a nose. Time 2.16. Grandstand Handicap.— Golden Morn 1, Wolthea 2, Bunny 3. Won by two lengths. Time 1.5 4-5. The Cheviot Club’s races were held on Riccarton course to-day. TJho weather was fine and the track was good. The attendance was fair.
