AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. DIRIGIBLE EXPLODES. 35 PERSONS KILLED. (Received This Day at 9.40 a.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 21. . At Norfolk (Virginia) the dirigible Roma exploded and 35 persons were killed.

Later particulars of the accident to the airship Roma show she was cruising with thirty men aboard, when the rudder broke and.the ship descended, nose first, and hit the ground with a bang and exploded. Ten men were rescued. The explosion was caused by the baloon coming into contact with electric wires. The confusion following the wreck caused conflicting reports. Norfolk announced that at least twenty-eight are dead. Washington announced that thirtyfive are dead
The dirigible was purchased by United States from Italy
